A bit of history: The Allied Air Forces Reunions were very popular but the decision was made to stop them as attendance was dropping. Apparently at the last Allied Air Forces reunion, a group of 427 Squadron veterans had a late night planning session at the Royal York, (the site for many of the reunions) where the first mention was made of starting an Association for 427 Squadron members, aircrew as well groundcrew, retired or serving and encompassing members from 1942 to the present day. Having been involved in many of these early morning planning sessions it is surprising that the idea of a 427 Squadron Association survived and was not forgotten by breakfast. It was a testimonial to Al d'Eon's dedication and tenacity that it survived. The initial group led by Al d'Eon consisted of Vern White, Stan Miller, Roy Inkster, Dean Wright and Gene O'Keefe, all WW II veterans. They threw themselves into the organization of the new Association and before long had two hundred members signed up. Al also decided to publish ROAR, a mail out newsletter to keep members informed about Squadron activities as well as articles and stories from the past. Al d'Eon published his first ROAR in 1996 and continued publishing for another eight years.
